The Lopinot Experience

We leave Port of Spain heading east to one of the few villages that has held on to its heritage. The village is named after a Frenchman, Compte Josef de Lopinot de la Fresilliere, who came to Trinidad in 1800 and settled in this area with land granted to him for services rendered to the British Crown.

Lopinot is rich in history and culture and the knowledgeable guide at the Great House will bring this to life, with his stories and parang songs. Parang is the traditional music of a Trinidad Christmas, sung in Spanish and played on string instruments by paranderos. Leaving the Great House we make our way to Café Mariposa, where you will be warmly welcomed by the Guerrero Family. One of them will give us a tour of their herb garden and take us on a walk of the Nature trail.

Returning to the main house you can savor the snacks with a Spanish flavour or have a typical Lopinot lunch. After relaxing for a while, we make our way back to Port of Spain.

A minimum of one day’s notice is required if snack or lunch is required.

North East Cost Tour

Discover our most untouched coast. We leave very early for this tour, as our end point will be Grand Riviere, a small village close to Toco at the North East Coast of the Island (104km from Port of Spain). Our interesting drive takes us through the town of Arima and the villages of Valencia and Mathura, until we reach Salybia where the Coastline can be seen. Vast stretches of picturesque, absolutely untouched beaches and sceneries can be observed. Trinidadians call this place ‘behind God’s back”. This is deep countryside where the pace of living is slow. We then go on to Sans Souci where surfers ride the waves. Our final stop Grande Riviere, where you can have lunch (on own) at a small rustic hotel situated directly on the beach. You can take a swim in the Caribbean Sea or in the nearby river, or explore the rain forest in the immediate surroundings.
